6 Best Reasons Why Children Need Playground Time

Growing up in a quick and evolving world like ours, it is quite simple and common for those to forget traditional ways as they move on towards newer frontiers. Youngsters that can barely read are being handed an iPad while the trusty unused playground equipment slowly tarnishes outside. It’s really a shame, as playground time holds six powerful qualities that should be influenced into a child’s life, and here they are!

1. “Scrape Your Knee Kiddo”

Life’s trials and tribulations will surface at unexpected moments, and it’s best that children learn at a young age "2 - 5", that they will fall and hurt themselves… but that it’s okay to do so, as long as they shake it off, get back up, and continue to play the game called life.

2. “Love Thy Neighbor”

We’re all social creatures by nature, although with all this technology being shoved into our faces, it’s pretty hard to actually have a decent conversation nowadays. Playground time encourages interaction like no other activity, and allows for social development as well as improved communication and motor skills. Some playground structures incorporate interactive panels such as puppet theatres, sign language, and kitchens encouraging cooking. Make sure your little ones get the chance to swing with a friend! They’ll love it!

3. “Safety First”

Safety is always a priority that should be placed upon children. Get them to learn about it out at recess! Teach the “future of tomorrow” about staying hydrated and wearing sunscreen out on hot days. Not to mention that they must stay and play under any area that has the proper shading such as trees or a shade structure. Even better, teach them how to tie their shoelaces before they must resort to REASON #1 on our list.

4. “Stop Right There Mister!

Out in the real world there are things called LAWS. Out on the playground there are things called RULES. A good dose of limits and boundaries should be displayed to children, such as “no pushing or fighting” and/or “wait your turn to go down the slide” Showcasing the fact that disobeying certain actions may lead to consequences will condition children to understand moral decency and respect authority.

5. “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”

Believe it or not children experience stress too. Now it may not be the same stress as a middle-aged parent may have, but its stress. Allow for them to ease the pain of a lost dog or a broken favorite toy by taking them outside and letting them indulge into their creative world as a little pirate who sails the seven seas on the S.S Playground!

6. “Show ‘Em You Care”

Sometimes kids take their guardians for granted and forget how much we love them, Granting them recess time tells them that their desires of going outside and having a good time were put into consideration. Children’s emotions are very sensitive at their age and the last thing they’d want to feel is unnoticed.

Now that you know of these important factors about playground time, there’s only one thing left to do with your children and students.
